The River City Regiment's 2007 Staff:

Brass Staff

George Miles, Caption Head

George marched for 4 years with the Phantom Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps from Rockford, Illinois and three years with the United States Marines Drum & Bugle Corps in Washington, DC. George has instructed the Phantom Regiment, the Phantom Regiment Cadets and most recently the Sacramento Mandarins.


Mr. Miles earned a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Northern Illinois University, and has taught in the public schools for 26 years. For the last 18, he has been the band director at John F. Kennedy High School in Sacramento. George came to the River City Regiment mid-season in 2005 filling the Brass Caption Head position.  This will be his 2nd season with RCR.

George Miles is the brass arranger for the River City Regiment.


Percussion Staff

Dan Hudson, Caption Head

Dan performed with the Sacramento Freelancers snare line from 1987-1990. He joined their percussion staff in 1991, and worked continuously with both the corps and later the Freelancers' Winter Drum line through 2004.

Dan has instructed various championship award winning high school marching bands throughout Northern California.

Dan joined the River City Regiment as Percussion Caption Head in 2004.

Guard Staff

Vincent Velasquez, Caption Head

Vince began his musical career playing clarinet with John F. Kennedy High School from 1980-1984.


In 1984 he began performing with the Spectra Color Guard, and he joined the Vintage Sound Drum & Bugle Corps. Vincent later performed with the Sacramento Freelancers in 1985 and the Santa Clara Vanguard in 1987.


Vincent has had an extensive background in instructing guards, having worked for Lodi High School, John F. Kennedy High School, the San Jose Raiders, Dublin High School, Gilroy High School, Amador Valley High School, and Beyer High School, among others.


He currently instructs Dublin High School, where he has taught since 2001. His units there were CCGC AA Class Champion in 2003 and 2004, WGI A Class Finalists in 2004, and CCGC Open Class Champions and WGI Open Class Finalists in 2005.  Vincent joins the River City Regiment as Color Guard Caption Head for 2006.


Visual Staff

Paul Mendoza, Caption Head

Paul started his drum corps experience at the early age of 10, marching with the Freelancer II Drum & Bugle Corps.  Several years later he joined Spectra Winter Color Guard from Sacramento.


Paul had participated with several nationally acclaimed Drum Corps such as the Sacramento Freelancers, Santa Clara Vanguard and the Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps.  He also performed with the WGI Championship Gold Medalist San Jose Raiders World Guard.
Paul joined River City Regiment in 2003 assisting with the Color Guard and Visual Staff.  He became the Visual Caption Head in 2004.
